Well done, Jared. Your goal with this type of writing is certainly valid. Young musicians don’t usually warm to things that look like or sound like work (and there’s not anything necessarily wrong with that)…that’s why they play music.

However, those of us who run websites/businesses and who focus on serving musicians on a daily basis tend to run across information and other content that can help them, and communicating it in a relevant (sometimes geeky) way, is what makes us more than businessmen.

When we teach, it allows artists to connect with us on a different level, and of course, makes our products and services more palatable.

Thanks for the refreshing perspective, and good luck! …and to those of you checking out musicismydayjob.com as a resource for your music career, good luck to you as well!

As my goal was to put (relatively) abstract marketing and CRM terms into a familiar context (i.e., Ghostbusters) in order to help independent musicians apply these concepts in their daily marketing efforts, I seem to have succeeded (as your last sentence acknowledges).

I never claimed that these ideas were mine. I cited clearly whenever I quoted ideas/concepts from others, and also included a list at the end of the original articles/content that fueled my article.

If you have any specific examples from your experience, or ideas on how artists can better engage today’s gatekeepers, please feel free to share them with all of us. Thanks MSP!
